Winston Wolkoff's book, published yesterday, is a spectacular exercise in revenge for perceived betrayal at the end of a 14-year friendship. She met Mrs Trump in 2003, when they were both 32, and Winston Wolkoff was working at Vogue. If her account is to be believed, surely she should have known better? To quote her British friend Jon Reynaga, co-founder of their events planning company, when told what was happening behind the scenes: “Girl, have you lost your mind?” Friends warned her, but she was blind to their advice. She claims she burnt bridges everywhere trying to keep Mrs Trump happy. She never finalised her contract, and was not paid for her expenses. Winston Wolkoff's expressed loyalty to Mrs Trump is perhaps admirable, but patently absurd. It begs the question as to why she, an established events planner, who spent nine years at Vogue organizing the Met Gala, did not therefore see this coming. ![]() From the beginning, Melania and Donald Trump and their family – in particular Ivanka – are portrayed as scheming, manipulative and deeply unpleasant people. Having read her feverish and furious account, Melania and Me, neither can I. “I can’t believe how blind I was to the depth of their deception and lack of common decency,” she writes. Winston Wolkoff would be thrown to the wolves, as she saw it falsely portrayed as having pocketed millions, and then forced out. Donors - who paid for it - were furious $3.6 million was paid to the Trump Hotel in Washington DC, and $3.99 million to design and print tickets, which she now claims she never saw. It was the most expensive inauguration in history, costing $107 million. A month later, the white elephant that was the inauguration would be dissected for all to see. I was practically a tarantula,” she writes. It was January 2018, and inside the White House she was asked to go over the forthcoming release of official financial declarations detailing Donald Trump's inauguration 12 months earlier. ![]() Stephanie Winston Wolkoff didn't like what she was hearing.
